How to convert an image to JPG or PNG
Change an image file type in three steps. WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP work the same way.

JPG vs PNG: which format to choose
JPG is made for photos. It leaves out detail the eye hardly notices, so a photo becomes a small file that every phone, computer and website can open. It has no see-through parts: transparent areas are filled with white or a colour you choose.
PNG keeps every pixel exactly as it is and supports transparency, which suits logos, screenshots, charts and anything with sharp text. The catch is size: a photo saved as PNG is usually several times larger than the same photo as a JPG.
WebP and AVIF do both jobs in smaller files and keep transparency, which is why websites prefer them. Convert images to WebP for your own site, and convert them back to JPG or PNG when an app, printer or form will not take them.
Why images save as WebP, AVIF or JFIF
Many websites send pictures as WebP or AVIF so pages load faster. Save one and you get a file that older apps, some Photoshop versions and many upload forms refuse. Converting it to JPG or PNG gives you a copy that opens anywhere.
JFIF is ordinary JPEG with a different ending. On some Windows setups, Chrome and Edge save JPEG pictures as .jfif. Here a .jfif or .jpeg file simply becomes .jpg without being saved again, so not one pixel changes.
Animated WebP stickers need one more choice. Pick GIF and every frame and its timing is kept in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, while Safari keeps the first frame. Every other format saves the first frame as a still picture.

How do I change WebP to JPG?

Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are two names for one format; early Windows allowed only three letters after the dot, so .jpg stuck.
What is a WebP file?
WebP is an image format made by Google for the web. It is smaller than JPG or PNG, but some older apps cannot open it.
What is a JFIF file?
JFIF is a JPEG image with a .jfif ending, often made when Chrome saves a picture on Windows. It becomes a .jpg here.
What is an AVIF file?
AVIF is a newer image format that makes very small files, now used by many websites. Convert it to JPG for older apps.
How do I change an image file type?

Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?
A little: JPG drops fine detail to save space, but at quality 90 it is hard to see. Keep PNG when every pixel must stay.
