Scrambled Latin, the usual filler for layouts.
Four to six sentences each.
Paragraphs split by a blank line.
The first sentence is the familiar Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, and every word after it is shuffled fresh each time you regenerate.
Free, with no sign-up and no limit. The text is made on your device, so the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
Get exactly as much dummy text as your layout needs in three steps, then paste it in.
Five paragraphs are ready when the page opens. Type a number and count it in paragraphs, words or characters.
Keep plain text, or pick HTML for <p> tags or Markdown for docs. Add headings and lists to test a page of styles.
Press Copy and paste it into Figma, Word or your code. Regenerate shuffles the words; Download saves it as a file.
Lorem ipsum means nothing, and that is the point. It is scrambled Latin from De finibus bonorum et malorum, a book on ethics Cicero wrote in 45 BC. Even the first word is broken: lorem is what is left of dolorem, so dolorem ipsum, pain itself, lost its first syllable.
Richard McClintock, a Latin scholar, traced the filler to sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of that book by hunting old texts for the rare word consectetur. Typesetters had cut, swapped and padded the words, and Letraset sheets of the 1960s carried the result into design studios.
To read what Cicero really wrote, set Text to Classic. It shows the standard Lorem ipsum passage, the two Latin sections it came from and H. Rackham's 1914 English translation, which opens with a man explaining why no one loves pain for its own sake.
Placeholder text lets a layout be judged before the real words exist. Lorem ipsum mixes short and long words much like English, so a column of it has the shape of real copy, and since nobody reads it, people look at the type, spacing and line length instead.
English filler text is the better pick when the words are part of the test: a product card, a sign-up form, a menu a client has to read through. Readable sentences show whether a title fits on two lines or a description runs long, and the English setting writes them for you.
The risk is shipping it. Lorem ipsum has slipped onto live websites and into print many times, so search a finished file for lorem before it goes out. Writing rough real text early helps too, as it catches layouts that only look right when filled with dummy words.
Ask for 500 characters or 100 words and get exactly that, ending on a full stop, for a fixed box.
Wrap each paragraph in <p> tags or write Markdown, with headings, lists and bold words when needed.
Readable English sentences built from common words, for mockups where people have to read the copy.
The first sentence is the classic Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet line. Switch it off for a random start.
Lorem ipsum paragraphs of two to nine sentences, to suit a small card, a blog post or an article.
The standard passage and the Cicero Latin it came from, with H. Rackham's 1914 English translation.
Every word is put together by code running in this tab, so nothing you make is sent or stored.
The text is made on this page and never sent to a server. Once loaded, the generator works offline.
Only your settings stay in this browser, so a refresh keeps them. The generated text is never saved.
No sign-up and no cap on how much you make: 500 paragraphs at a time, as often as a test needs them.
Scrambled Latin that designers and developers use to fill a layout before the real words are written and ready.
Nothing as written. It comes from dolorem ipsum, pain itself, in a book by Cicero, but its words were cut and shuffled.
Latin, though not correct Latin. Words were cut, swapped and made up, so a Latin reader sees familiar parts but no sense.
Type =lorem() on a new line and press Enter. =lorem(2,5) gives 2 paragraphs of 5 lines. Type =rand() for English text.
Any stand-in text that shows where real words will go: lorem ipsum in a mockup, or the grey hint in an empty form box.
It has the look of real text, with words of mixed lengths, but says nothing, so people judge the design and not the words.
It has no real translation. Set Text to Classic to read Cicero's original Latin beside Rackham's 1914 English version.
Readable English filler, a rough draft of the real copy or sample data from your app. Set Text to English for the first.
